Ingredients
For Kadhi
- Yogurt (Curd): 1 cup
- Gram Flour (Besan): 3 tbsp
- Turmeric Powder: ½ tsp
- Kashmiri Red Chili Powder: ½ tsp
- Water: 3 cups
- Salt: To taste
For Tempering
- Oil/Ghee: 2 tbsp
- Cumin Seeds: 1 tsp
- Mustard Seeds: ¼ tsp
- Fenugreek Seeds: 1 tsp
- Asafoetida (Hing): A pinch
- Dry Red Chilies: 2, broken
Optional Pakoras
- Gram Flour (Besan): ½ cup
- Onion: 5 medium, sliced
- Carrom: 1 tsp
- Garlic paste: 2–3 cloves
- Water: As needed
- Salt (To taste ) and turmeric powder: ½ cup
- Oil: For frying
- Garnish: Fresh coriander leaves
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Make Pakoras
In a bowl, mix gram flour, Garlic paste, sliced onions, turmeric powder, Carrom, salt. Add water gradually to form a thick batter.
Heat oil in a pan and drop spoonfull of batter into the hot oil. Fry until golden and crisp. Pakoras are ready for the kadhi.
2. Prepare the Yogurt Mixture
- In a bowl, whisk together yogurt and gram flour until smooth and lump-free.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and water. Mix well to form a thin batter.
3. Make the Tempering And Cook the Kadhi
- Heat oil or ghee into a deep pan.
- Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and fenugreek seeds. Let them splutter.
- Add asafoetida, dry red chilies. Saute until dry red chilies colour changed to dark.
- Pour the above prepared Yogurt Mixture in the Tempering and mix gently. Bring it to a boil, stirring constantly to avoid curdling.
- Lower the heat and let it simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the pakoras to the kadhi.
5. Serve Hot
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice or roti for a comforting meal.

- Heat ghee in a small tadka pan on medium heat, add the cumin and let it splutter.
- Add dried red chilli, red chilli powder, mix and pour it over the prepared kadhi.
